PADI SPECIALTIES

Delayed SMB

The PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Specialty course will teach you how to be aware of your surroundings whilst diving and cautious on both ascents and descents

To take the course you need to be 12 years of age and be a PADI Open Water Diver. Duration of the course is 1 day and includes a total of 2 dives.

What you will learn are the various techniques on how to a add air to the DSMB and deploy it from depth in both stationary and in mid-water positions. Surface marker buoys are used to signal boats from underwater to show divers are below, so in shallow waters you will learn to deploy the DSMB and swim whilst towing the DSBM on the surface for at least 10 mins. You will learn to use underwater reels to enable you to deploy the DSMB from varying depths.

The DSMB is also useful to signal boats whilst on the surface, especially from a distance. Very handy for diving in currents where you spend the majority of the dive drifting and the boat will come and pick you up after the dive.
